Homemade Horchata.

Nothing beats this sweet drink, especially on a hot summer day! The aroma and flavor of cinnamon, the taste of vanilla, it all mixes together so well and turns this drink into a hit!
I always figured it was too hard to make and have seen powders you just add to water and call it a day, but I wanted to actually make it for myself.
I did some research and found the perfect recipe that seemed easy enough.
I gave it a go and was surprised at how simple it was and how little ingredients it took. You probably have all the ingredients already, so why not make your own Horchata? No excuses! 🙂


1 cup of uncooked long grain rice
4 1/2 cups of water
1/2 tbsp of fresh ground cinnamon
1/2 cup of sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups of milk


1. In a blender add rice and water. Blend for 1 minute until rice cracks
2. Let mixture set for 3 1/2 hours
3. In a pitcher, strain the rice but keeping the water
4. Add remaining ingredients, mix well, and leave in refrigerator overnight (I added a couple of cinnamon sticks)
5. Serve over ice
